About good practice
A description of the location
Džabuka's permaculture garden is the first of its kind on the territory of the Murska Sobota municipality. It is also unique because it is a communal garden. The plot of the garden is located next to the railway line in Murska Sobota and is approximately 600 m2.
The reason for the emergence of good practice
The land for the Džabuka permaculture garden was leased for a long time by Hia Sade i. In cooperation with the youth organization Association for Obvious Things, they arranged the land into a community garden.
The operation of best practice
Džabuka's permaculture garden is used for the food needs of House of Fruits and the Association for Obvious Things, as well as for the refreshments of the participants of the events organized by the said association. The rest of the harvest is stored in winter storage, the main purpose of the project was to raise awareness and educate the public about self-sufficiency. Permaculture garden Džabuka (an old Prekmurian name for an apple) got its name because the floor plan of this garden is in the shape of an apple. The latter name also coincides with the coexistence of man and nature, its exploitation and food production. The garden will continue to be managed by volunteers as part of House of Fruits and Association for Obvious Things, which leases the latter plot.
