About good practice
A description of the location
The castle garden of Škofja Loka Castle had been neglected and closed for many years.
The reason for the emergence of good practice
The project is aimed at individuals with intellectual disabilities. Its goal is to provide them with equal opportunities in care, education, employment, and housing, and to enable their full integration into society. The Sožitje Association, the Škofja Loka Museum as the manager of the castle garden area, and the Municipality of Škofja Loka as the owner, have jointly recognized the potential of the closed castle garden as a community space where Sožitje members can implement one of their newly developed programs.
The operation of best practice
People with intellectual disabilities will participate in workshops and garden work. They will gain knowledge about gardening and a sense of belonging to society through their work. Additionally, a public awareness program about individuals with intellectual disabilities will be conducted. The project will establish lasting cooperation between the Škofja Loka Museum and the Sožitje Association, with the Municipality of Škofja Loka providing the necessary investments to ensure the conditions for the program's implementation.
