WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE PLATFORM
»ACTING TOGETHER« 2024?
The platform highlights the potential of small and remote places, which could be revived with new or re-established content through participatory activities. At the same time, it promotes active cooperation and participation in projects that build the community. It focuses mainly on already established projects, which are the result of cooperation between local residents with the aim of improving public space and strengthening mutual ties and a sense of belonging to the place. The theme of the project is open, it can include various interventions in the space (benches, playgrounds, community gardens, etc.), cultural events (ecological markets, open-air libraries, etc.) or other forms of action to strengthen the community and common spaces of the local community. The choice of the proposed good practice should be considered and justified with concrete reasons - the added value of the operation and involvement of the local community should be clearly expressed.
EXPLANATION OF TERMS
A remote place: is an area (for example, a settlement, part of a settlement, landscape) that can be defined as remote based on various criteria, e.g. low population density, geographical barrier, lack of good transport connections, difficulties in accessing facilities, social peculiarities and/or divisions, economic weakness, various subjective or other criteria that you consider important for your specific situation. Despite the fact that people often do not consider such areas, they are a treasure trove of tangible and intangible cultural heritage that must be carefully protected and preserved.
Activity: among the activities, we include the engagement and action of local residents who aim to improve a remote place by long-term/short-term implementation of various actions, from construction, such as the establishment of a community garden, the installation of urban equipment, the arrangement of footpaths, etc., to cultural, such as film screenings, the running of ecological markets etc. The activities are mainly focused on connecting with each other in achieving a common goal, which addresses a pleasant living environment with fellow human beings.
Rural area: an area with sparser settlement, more extensive land use and primary economic activities.
Local community: A group of people from the same or surrounding settlements, who want to improve their hometown and are looking towards a common goal.
Participation: In general, it is about the participation of the public in the processes of decision-making and action in all areas of public life. In the context of this project, we focus on the importance of participation, where the residents of a certain area formulate and communicate their wishes, concerns, attitudes, initiatives and comments for the management of the place and the functioning of the local community. Listening to one's fellow man, accepting compromises and achieving a common goal are of key importance in the participation process.
Public space: An open or closed space in public or private ownership that is accessible to everyone under the same conditions regardless of gender, age, race, national or social affiliation, e.g. street, square, park, public transport stop, public library.
Good practice (in this case): a project conceived by an author or several authors in collaboration with local residents with the aim of improving and revitalizing public space in a remote place.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Who can submit good practice on the ACTING TOGETHER platform?
A good practice can be submitted by anyone who participated in it/is still working on it, or who can provide data and graphic materials with rights for their public publication (name of the good practice, organizers/authors, location, short description, graphic materials).
Does it have a platform ACTING TOGETHER international character?
Yes, the ACTING TOGETHER platform has no boundaries. For this reason, the website is also available in English.
Does good practice have to be carried out at a location in a public (open) space?
Insofar as good practice is carried out on private (open) land, it is necessary to explain well why this location has a public or semi-public character and can be used not only by the owners, but also by the local or general public.
How many good practices can I submit?
There are no restrictions.
Can good practice also come from the urban area and not only from small and remote places?
Conditionally possible if the location where the good practice is implemented has at least some characteristics of a remote place (e.g. poor accessibility, underprivileged, etc.).
